Scholastic Writing Awards

Congratulations to all applicants of the 2021 Scholastic Awards! The deadline for the MN Writing Region has passed. Check back for Awards Announcements, coming at the end of January 2021.

The Minnesota Writing Project is a proud affiliate partner with the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. As the Minnesota Region host of the Writing Awards, we coordinate the regional Writing Awards for the entire state of Minnesota.

Who can participate in the Writing Awards?

Teens in grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up) apply in 11 categories of writing. There is a fee for each submission, but Fee Waivers that cover the entire submission cost are available online during the submission process.

How do students register?

All the information you need to register is available on our Affiliate Page. There are also videos about registration on the Scholastic Gold Key YouTube channel under the playlist Entry Process.

What else do I need to know?

There are also cool Scholarships and Special Achievement Awards available including:

Don't wait until the last minute to register!

Because of the time it takes to judge the work, we can't guarantee work that is received after the deadline will be accepted, even if it was a technical error. Contact us at mwp@umn.edu with questions.
