research strategies in social sciences
In
the humanities, evidence is typically drawn directly from the
text under discussion. In the social sciences, however, unless
the assignment asks for a book or literature review, evidence
is often derived from primary research. Because the success
of writing in the social sciences rests heavily on the quality
of its quantitative (statistical) or qualitative (observable)
evidence, good research practice and techniques for integrating
research into prose deserve direct address in both upper and
lower-division courses.
