Expressions of Art
by Philip Carter
Harding Senior High School

My name is Philip Carter, and I really feel that art not only makes people express feelings, but that art expresses itself. I am a free writer that likes to write about things that inspire and motivate the different parts of my life, and that really question and challenge my imagination.

I feel that the expressions of art are as big as the ocean, and can be as random as car keys. Some people see art as boring, or see it as having no reason for even being here. At the museum, we came across a piece called “Big Catch” that in reality had no reason for being there, but in my imagination it sort of told a story that was quite chaotic and destructive. That art piece opened my imagination to think about all the art that I had already seen, in a completely different manner than I had seen it before. We also came across a piece that had the words of the first astronauts on the moon, and I’m not talking about the famous quote by Neil Armstrong “This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind,” this piece had all of the words that were edited out of the broadcasted historic breakthrough. It seemed as if they were just having a normal everyday conversation on earth, even though they were creating history. Some might say, “Well, who cares about art, it’s not helping anybody,” but why would you say such a false statement, when art is all around you. Your cell phone is art, your computer is art, and even your clothes are works of art. You don’t see things like that in your normal daily life, but when you seriously think about it, everything around us is art in the making.

So in conclusion. I think that art really can express itself, no matter how simple or how complicated that art can be. But I also really think that art can express itself not only by the emotions and feelings that a human has, but on how that human perceives and connects that art to their life, and in doing that bringing out the Expressions Of Art.

Oh Tacos
by Becke Lor
Harding Senior High School

collageOh how your smile looks.
Oh how I love the summer breeze
You and I fishing with everyone.
You radiate brighter than any
Sun or solar beam in the
Galactic universe. Now, I
Know I can’t write out
a poem or spit words
that form a great verse,
But I figured there can only
be two reasonable explanations
for these constant butterflies
fluttering inside of me.
One you can deal
With, my crazy mood swings
and two, you’re on your
way with a crunchy supreme taco,
If that doesn’t scream
I love you then I
don't know what does.

Oh Tacos Author’s Statement:

Hi, I’m Becke and I am a sophomore at Harding High School. I love being involved in church, a bible verse that keeps me going is Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you, he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
