Round Trip from Atlanta to Tucson

I was excited to leave. At first,
to go all those places I’d never seen.
But I’ll sure as hell never go back to Texas again.
It’s so vast, the interstate a never-ending Möbius strip.

To see all the places I’ve never been,
it would take more than a lifetime.
It’s so long, the list a never-ending Möbius strip.
There’s so much to see, to learn, to do in those wide open spaces.

It would take more than a lifetime
to make a dent in all of my dreams.
There’s so much to see, to learn, to do. In those wide open spaces,
I’ve been searching, chasing something new since even before I left home.

To make a dent in all of my dreams,
I’ll sure as hell never go back to Texas again.
I’ve been searching, chasing something old ever since I came home.
I was excited to leave, at first.

Author's note: “But I’ll sure as hell never go back to Texas again” is borrowed from James Crumley’s book The Final Country.
