I’m delighted to be an assistant director in the Center for Writing. The merging of the General College/College of Education and Human Development Writing Center (of which I was the director) with the Center for Writing and the Online Writing Center has benefited University of Minnesota students as well as the staff of the three centers. Working together, we now offer centralized yet personalized writing support to students informed by years of experience providing service to students from throughout the university. The Center for Writing is an exciting place in which to work. My main responsibilities lie in Student Writing Support, where I manage SWS-Appleby, the satellites, and SWS.online, update the center website, and participate in hiring, training, and scheduling all of the writing consultants.

My background includes a master of library science degree and a Ph.D. in English literature, nine years of work as an academic librarian, and many years of teaching composition and literature and working with students one-on-one in writing centers. Genealogy has become a passion for me—I’m taking the National Genealogical Society home study course; I read about how to do research and record genealogical information; and I conduct research on my own family history in libraries, courthouses, and online. I also love to cook healthy meals, walk the trails in my neighborhood, and read mysteries, romances, and histories of natural disasters.
