The galleries will open for viewing on October 20, 2009, and will remain open through June 2010. Writing may be submitted between now and June 2010.

Writing Pod—Enter the Writing Pod and write in view of the world! The pod will be outfitted with a variety of writing implements and technology (pen and paper, computer, typewriter) as well as webcams that will record and document the writing process for immediate webcast and for later editing and sharing. Writing in College: CIS meets U Faculty—College in the Schools: Composition teachers will participate in a workshop discussion with University faculty from across the disciplines on the transitions from high school to college writing and from composition to writing across the curriculum contexts. Geocaching to Discover—To celebrate the Day on Writing, local geocachers are placing 4 new writing-themed caches on the East Bank of campus. Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. This activity will be a way to explore and discover places on campus that will inspire writers.(More information will be provided at the event. If you haven't geocached before, this will be a great way to start! Limited GPS devices will be available for checkout.)

Benefit for Hunger Reading by U of Minnesota's Creative Writers—Edelstein-Keller Professor Charles Baxter (author of novels Feast of Love and Saul & Patsy) hosts the second annual Benefit for Hunger Reading. Featuring Ray Gonzalez, Madelon Sprengnether, Patricia Hampl, Michael Dennis Browne, and M. J. Fitzgerald, all Creative Writing Program faculty. Free, with a suggested donation benefiting Second Harvest Heartland foodshelf. Go here for more information.
